Causes Of Lower Back Pain In The Morning

Evaluate Your Mattress

The first thing is to evaluate your mattress. Check to see if your mattress is giving you enough support. Related to back pain, firm mattress is always going to be better and should provide plenty of support to the back.

Sleeping Position

Sleeping position is clearly relevant to back pain as it can be an aggravating factor in low back pain. There are a few things we can do to minimize the chances of a problem position. Working on sleeping position could be of some help. The most likely position to cause back pain is while sleeping face down. Arranging pillows can support a comfortable position and helps to maintain it. For instance, putting a large body pillow “in the way,” making it more difficult to roll into an awkward position may be effective for some people.

Being Overweight

The extra weight puts pressure on the spine; you can use the BMI healthy weight calculator to find out if you need to lose weight.

Back pain in the morning may be due to tissue damage in the back caused by smoking or the fact that people who smoke tend to have unhealthier lifestyles than people who don’t smoke.

Long-term use of medication is known to weaken bones, medicines such ascorticosteroids could be the reason for your back pain.

Joint pain (including in the back) when walking and stiffness first thing in the morning are symptoms of arthritis – if the pain and stiffness take more than 30 minutes to resolve on waking up, or seem to start when you stop to rest after exercise, make sure you mention this to your general physician.
